Benefits of ThermaX PEEK

  • Inherently flame resistant and self-extinguishing
  • Long-term hydrolytic stability even above 250C
  • Outstanding resistance to a broad range of chemicals, including automotive fluids, fully halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, and aqueous solutions
  • Low smoke and toxic gas emissions
  • Excellent dimensional stability with low heat creep, low and uniform coefficient of thermal expansion, giving PEEK highly reproducible part-to-part dimensions
  • High thermal properties with a Tg of 143C, CUT of 240-260C, and Tm of 343c
  • PEEK is an advanced, ultra-high-temperature polymer. It is not intended for standard desktop FDM printers
  • For greater print success, we recommend these choices:
  • PEKK: Similar high-performance family with improved printability for many users.
  • ULTEM™ (PEI): High heat performance and excellent strength. Often a more forgiving option than PEEK.
  • PPS: Strong chemical resistance and dimensional stability. Typically easier to process than PEEK

ThermaX PEEK

ThermaX PEEK (PolyEtherEtherKetone) is one of the highest-performance polymers in the world. In fact, it’s one of the highest-performance plastics ever invented. PEEK has exceptional mechanical, thermal, and chemical resistance properties making it a go-to material in some of the most demanding applications where failure is not an option.

PEEK is an advanced, ultra-high-temperature polymer that demands industrial printing conditions to achieve consistent results. Plan on a 360–450°C hot end, 120–160°C bed, and a fully enclosed, actively heated chamber (70–150°C) to control warping and ensure strong layer adhesion. Best practices also include thorough filament drying, slow print speeds, and reduced or disabled part-cooling fan. Most standard desktop printers can’t reliably maintain these conditions.

For greater success, we recommend these high performance filaments:

PEKK: Delivers similar “PEAK-family” performance benefits but is often considered more forgiving to dial in than PEEK, with improved layer bonding and reduced warping sensitivity in many setups. It’s a strong step toward PEEK-level capability without as much process difficulty.

ULTEM™ (PEI): A high-performance polymer that typically prints more predictably than PEEK while still offering excellent heat resistance and strength. It’s a great choice when you want industrial-level performance with a more manageable processing window.

PPS: Known for strong chemical resistance and dimensional stability, and it can be an easier path to consistent parts compared to PEEK. It’s a smart option for environments involving fuels, solvents, or harsh chemicals where reliability matters.

MADE IN THE USA

We manufacture all of our filaments in our 68,000 ft² manufacturing facility (located in Grand Rapids, Michigan) using state-of-the-art equipment and processes. Our goal continues to be to make the most innovative filaments on the market – targeting difficult end-use applications.
