Description
Polysulfone (PSU) is a high-temperature aromatic sulfone polymer. PSU has excellent thermal and chemical resistance, making it well suited for demanding applications in automotive, aerospace, electronics, defense, food service, industrial, plumbing, medical, semi-con applications.

PSU is an excellent alternative to ULTEM 9085.

While having a lower cost per kilogram and lower density (giving you more filament per kilogram as well), it maintains superior thermal properties. Its higher Tg and HDT give it higher strength and stiffness at elevated temperatures.

Benefits of ThermaX PSU

  • Very high thermal properties superior to Ultem 9085
  • Excellent hydrolytic resistance
  • High Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESCR)
  • Sterilization capable, including EtO gas, radiation, steam autoclaving, plasma, dry heat and cold sterilization
  • Exceptional strength and modulus, even at elevated temperatures
  • Outstanding impact resistance
  • Highly resistant to even large (10 Mrd) doses of gamma radiation
  • Resists most common automotive fluids including gasoline, antifreeze, transmission fluids, motor oils, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid (ESCR, 24 hrs, 100C)
  • Inherently flame retardant with low smoke evolution and low smoke toxicity
  • Excellent dimensional stability with low creep sensitivity, low and uniform coefficient of thermal expansion, and highly reproducible part-to-part dimensions.

Nozzle-Abrasion

Abrasive Material

This material is particularly abrasive among 3D printing filaments. Users may find standard brass nozzles are chewed through very quickly compared to standard wear and tear. When worn through, the nozzle diameter will widen inconsistently and the printer will experience extrusion issues.

Because of this, it's strongly recommended this material be printed through a hardened steel nozzle rather than a softer metal. Hardened steel nozzles can often be inexpensive and easily installed depending on your printer manufacturer's instructions.

Material DETAILS

Glass Fiber Reinforced Filament

Rectangle111

What Is It?

DescriptionFibers made of glass reinforced into the polymer during manufacturing and aligned along the axis of filament. This, along with their physical makeup, give this material enormous strength and mechanical properties.
Rectangle222

What Does It Do?

Glass fiber reinforcement gives material a lot of desirable properties: High strength High stiffness High chemical resistance Low thermal expansion
Rectangle333

How Does It Work?

Reinforcing plastic with glass fibers produces a 3D printing filament which exhibits the best properties of both fiberglass and the plastic of choice.

What Is It Good For?

Ideal for any applications which require strength and rigidity. For these reasons, glass fiber reinforced filament is very popular in automotive, mechanical, civil engineering, and research industries.
